about

Recently unearthed from the cassette collection of Joel Thibodeau (Death Vessel/Sub Pop -- not to mention, drummer on this set) ... what we have here is some early raw Primal Eyesores. 23 years ago, wow. This was at the tail end of a tour that included stops at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago and Speak In Tongues in Cleveland where we opened for Godspeed You Black Emperor! I even bought a fancy tremolo pedal for it. I also vaguely recall a set we played at a country bar in Morgantown WV that I remember going to see reggae shows at in the 80s when it used to be the Nyabinghi Dance Hall. This is (roughly) the 2nd lineup of the band, and I use that term quite loosely. There have been at least 10 different iterations after I left. Every freak in Providence was an Eyesore at some point. AKR is still doing it, dig in: www.cuneiformrecords.com/bandshtml/redfearn.html

"My favorite songwriter was (and still is) accordionist Alec K. Redfearn" (John McCauley, Deer Tick)

“Woozy mangled folk music that wholeheartedly embraces heartbreak as a natural state of being… like an eastern European wedding band that learned to play from worn-out, smuggled-in Tom Waits tapes.” (Chicago Reader, 1999)
