about

In the first week of January 2004, Miriam and I took off for Europe for a 3-month tour. We performed 65 gigs in 16 countries. We traveled by train / bus / ferry ... with a guitar and cello on our backs and a small suitcase with a few clothes, Moogerfooger, omnichord, Whammy pedal, etc. By the time we got to Paris, the trip was 2/3 complete and Spring had just Sprung. Springtime in Paris may be a cliche, but oh boy it sure is nice. Especially since we had spent the Winter up in Scandinavia. We intentionally booked the tour to have extra days off in each place to explore and settle a bit. So, we were in Paris for 4 days - we played a live session on Radio Campus Paris one afternoon and also a regular club show at Le Pop In the next night.

[Incidentally, that night at Pop In was the only time I've ever been in a fight. A drunken British ex-pat hated our set (thats not rock and roll ! you're not the who! you're no fucking rolling stones! ) and also had some choice words directed to Miriam, then took a swing at me. Unfortunately for him, we were at the top of a flight of stairs - it was over pretty quickly.]

So the next day, our host Fred, asked us to play an in-store at the Festen Record Store. And here it is. I just found this recording on mini-disc, literally not touched in twenty years. The image there is a snapshot I took from outside the record store immediately following this performance. And then we split straight away to catch an overnight train to Italy.
