/// TAPES SOLD OUT ///

original label description:

"Hot on the heels of two highly-lauded long-players for Beyond Beyond is Beyond and Feeding Tube Records comes "Earthquake Country," the latest full-length cassette jammer from the cosmic earth-music collective Dire Wolves. Those who have heard any of this band's previous releases or managed to catch one of their exhilarating live sets know that this is a band that thrives on improvisation, and these two new recordings do not disappoint in that regard - with each stretching well over the twenty-minute mark, these are psychedelic wormholes of the highest grade, graced with sprawling examples of the beautiful electric guitar/violin interplay that has become one of the group's hallmarks.

Side A here sees Dire Wolves founder and guitarist Jeffrey Alexander (also of the Iditarod, Jackie-O Motherfucker, et al) and violinist Arjun Mendiratta spinning a complex quilt of sound over Brian Lucas and Sheila Bosco's firm-but-funky rhythms before the band drifts into space, freeing up all involved to fully explore the textural possibilities of their instruments. Flip the tape over and the band starts to really dig its fuzz-flecked teeth into things, whipping up a spiraling krautrock boogie beneath vocalist Lau Nau's heavenly coaxing.

The final breakdown being: if you've ever thought that all those early San Francisco jam bands should have been taking the lion's share of their notes from Sun Ra and Sonny Sharrock, this tape is probably your cup of tea."
